Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to describe perceptions of elementary school teachers about sources of organizational power used by school administrators. Study group were 740 teachers from randomly selected schools at European region of Istanbul province. The Sources of Organizational Power Used by School Administrators Scale was used to collect data. Results showed that school managers were using legitimate and coercive power the most, but they were using reward power the least in primary schools. Performance of private primary schools were found to be better than those of public primary education schools from the aspect of organizational power evaluated in the dimensions of legitimate, coercive, reward, referent, and expert power. There were significant differences about coercive and reward power by education level. Furthermore, 21 year and more experienced teachers have expressed more positive perceptions in all dimensions of organizational power.
