Özet:

Towards the end of the 19th century, Armenians intended to break away from the Ottoman Empire and establish an independent Greater Armenia in order to take advantage of opportunities promised by the international conjuncture. However, they had limited resources in order to achieve this aim. Therefore, they set their hopes on the political and diplomatic support that would be given them by the greater powers of the contemporary political scene in this process. Their first aim can be said to obtain the support of European public and diplomacy through starting a revolt. Thus, a range of Armenian revolts arose in the Ottoman Empire in 1895. One of the revolts which emerged during this period took place in Trabzon. It is of prime importance to unfold the social, economic, religious-sectarian and cultural backgrounds of participants of the events which took place in Trabzon so as to comprehend the nature of the overall revolt. In addition, contacts made by rebellions within the Armenian movement, offer clues about the scope of the incident. Also, the statements of the Armenians, who were involved in the rebellion, during the trials include significant information which would avail for understanding the social psychology of Ottoman Armenians. This study aims to investigate the revolts of Armenians emerged in Trabzon in 1895 within the mentioned framework
