Özet:

In this research, the academic success and problem solving skills of the students of the Faculty of Education, Atatürk University were studied. The research covers the students of Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty, Atatürk University of the academic year 2004-2005. The sample of the research includes 234 persons based on a random selection. The data of this research were collected with Problem Solving Inventory developed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and adapted by Şahin & Şahin and Heppner (1993). Besides Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher himself was benefited from order to obtain information releated to several variables. For the analysis of the data obtained t test and correlation Variance Analysis (One Way Anova), As the result of the research, these findings were found: Based of difference of gender, as for the scores for problem solving skill a meaningful difference could not be found; as for the scores for academik success was found in favour of the students of famale. Based of difference of divisions of students, as for the scores for the problem solving skill and academic success were found in favour of the students of social sciences. Based of difference of field of learning of students, as for the scores for the problem solving skill was found in favour of the students of field of social sciences; as for the scores for the academic success a meaningful difference could not be found. Based of difference of level of class, as for the scores for the problem solving skill and academic success were found in favour of the students of forth grade. Based of difference of teaching form of students, as for the scores for the problem solving skill and academic success were found in favour of the students of secondary teaching. Based of difference of location that having been mostly and general socialeconomic grade of students, as for the scores for the problem solving skill and academic success a meaningful difference could not be found. Besides, a meaningful relation (correlation) could not be found between problem solving skill and academic success. Key words : Problem solving skill, academic success.
