Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the views of parents from different educational level, university, high school, middle school and primary school on the new elementary school mathematics teaching program. There were a total of 317 parents involved in this study that took place in the city center of Afyonkarahisar during 2006-2007. The researchers developed a liker-type questionnaire consisting of 20 statements regarding the parents’ views about the new elementary school mathematics curriculum, students’ work and attitudes towards the new program. After the collection of the quantitative data, the researchers used descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA with α=0.05 in the analysis of the data.   This current study demonstrated that there were statistically significant differences found in terms of educational level among the participants in the care of students’ work and the textbooks used in the new program. Besides, none of the parents involved in the study has adequate knowledge about the constructs of the new elementary school mathematics teaching program.
