The aim of this study is to determine elementary school students’ metaphorical perceptions of Social Studies Course. The study was surveyed in Mehmetçik Elementary School in Elazığ city center in 2010-2011 academic year. 70 students enrolled at 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th graders were included in the study. Volunteer students were included in the study. The students completed the phrase of “Social Studies Course is like ……………… because ………….”to indicate their conceptualization of Social Studies Course. The metaphors and their common features were identified by means of these forms. Content analysis method was used to analyze the data. Students’ metaphors were collected under four categories. These categories are “subject diversity and comprehensiveness”, “enjoying Social Studies course”, “importance of the content of the course” and “guidance of the course”.
