Abstract:

Communication skills are an important issue for students who are preparing for their profession. University students’ communication skills should be gained and developed in the training courses. The aim of this study is to determine the communication skills of the students in the vocational school. The communication skills of students were investigated with different variables like gender, age, programs, grade level, and living location of family, parents’ education, socio-economic level of family, parents’ attitudes, and relationships with friends. The study group of the research includes 364 students studying in Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Osmaneli Vocational High School. The participants were asked to complete “Personal Information Form” and “Communication Skills Inventory”. The data analysis methods used in the study were percentage distribution, t-test, one-way variance analysis, Kruskal Wallis and Pearson’s correlation analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that communication skills of female students were higher than the communication skills of male students. C ommunication skills of students who have positive and calm relations with their friends were higher than other students.Other variables were not created on difference on students' communication skills.
