The history of modern religious education can be started with the era of post-republic of Turkey. After accepting the act of the uniting the education (tevhid-i tedrisat) the İmam Hatip Schools were established, it has been wanted to give religious education through these schools. This Project doesn’t work due to different reasons. After closure of the last İmam Hatip School in 1930, there has been a gap officially in high school education in Turkey and religious education is not given during this period. In 1948 the İmam Hatip Courses then it turned out to be as a school and later it has been İmam Hatip High School (Priester und Praediger Schule). Again it has been started firstly in village schools , then as an optional course of religious education is put to high school curriculum, later in the constitution of 1982 it has been a compulsory subject. When we came to the years 2000 this occasion has been the subject of discussion and compulsory religious education and curriculum have been put to the agenda. At this point first of all what we need to do is we have to know rightly the history of Religious Education and Teaching to take a decision regarding religious education. After finding out this issue truly, then it can be passed to what sort of things to be done.
