After the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) developed by UNESCO, the term “intangible cultural heritage” has came into use and was warmly welcomed among mostly folklorists. However, during the implementation process of the convention, it has been recognized that “intangible cultural heritage” and “folklore” were terms that do not overlap completely. Since mostly the folklorists take part in the implementation of this convention, it is necessary to reveal the similarities and the differences of these two terms. For this reason, in this study the differences of intangible cultural heritage from folklore is discussed by comparing these two terms.
