Çalışmada girişimcilik ve yenilik ilişkisi irdelendikten sonra, araştırma ve geliştirmenin önemi üzerinde durulmuştur. Daha sonra da dünyadaki ve Türkiye’deki yenilik ve araştırma ve geliştirme (arge) faaliyetleri konusundaki gelişmeler anlatılmıştır. Çalışmanın alan araştırması Anadolu’daki sanayileşme süreci içerisinde yer alan beş kentte yapılmıştır. Bu iller Kayseri, Malatya Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş ve Denizli’dir. Araştırmayla ilgili hipotezler doğrultusunda girişimcilerin demografik özellikleriyle, yenilik ve ar-ge için kaynak ayırma durumları, işletmelerin işçi sayısına göre büyüklüğü ile yenilik ve ar-ge için kaynak ayırma durumları ve son olarak da işletmelerin fizibilite çalışması yapmalarıyla ar-ge ve yenilik için kaynak ayırma durumları arasında istatistikî bir farklılığın olup olmadığı test edilmiştir
