In his book named Ahsan al-Taqsmf Marifati’l-Aqlm, the famous geographical scientist Maqdis shares his identifications and considerations about the Islamic jurisprudence known as al-Fıqh and its history. His explenations contains the knowledge about distribution of the fıqh sects within fourth century Islamic world. He also talks about the worships and the dealings concerning fıqh in various regions and reveals how life reflected in the practice of jurisprudence. All these explanations give the opportunity to check the theoretical explanations which appear in the literature. This article aims to describe the assessments of Islamic juriprudence that appears in Ahsanal-Taqâsîm, which is not considered as a direct source of Islamic jurisprudence, and to point to the importance of benefit from indirect sources, as well as from direct sources, in studying a particular topic. Moreover, it is to indicate that the secondary sources might include some original information beyond what can be expected.
