Understanding sources of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) is perhaps the most important topic in strategic management. A resource-based view of the firm (RBV), which has began to develop after 1980s, presents substantial insights in this topic and has become a dominant model in explaining sources of SCA. A major contribution of this model to strategic management has been to emphaisize again the importance of the firm in gaining SCA. This model views the firm resources rather than external environment as sources of SCA. While the model is developing both teheoretically and amprically, its implications for practicing managers in terms of formulating competitive strategy were not sufficiently examined in the literature. To contribute to remedy this neglect, after summarizin main points of RBV, its implications for managers were examined
