The main purpose of this study was to investigate the professional challenges of the first-year classroom teachers. The participants for the study included 247 classroom teachers who started teaching in the cities of Ağrı, Diyarbakır, Konya, Muş ve Şanlıurfa during the 2002-2003 school year. Data was gathered through the administration of a survey composed of 34 questions to the study participants. According to the results, a great proportion of beginning classroom teachers encounter challenges regarding their adaptation to the teaching profession and their successfully fulfillment of the teaching roles and duties.
