What the Qur’an says about veiling is discussed in this article. The aim of this article is to analyze the veiling, which is a command of Almighty Allah, based on the Qur’an, and to create a current sensitivity. The basic hypothesis of the research is that the veiling is one of the most important orders of the Qur'an, but there are some disruptions to the practice. This hypothesis reveals the importance of approaching the Qur'an to the Qur'an-centric approach. The scope of the article is confined to verses in the Qur’an concerning veiling. The method of research consists of the literature review on the veiling. Accordingly, and in the light of afore-mentioned verses, Prophet Muhammad’s sayings, relevant data existed in the tafsir works and other works done on the subject are evaluated. The article includes the four sections following its introduction. These sub-headings are as follows. i. Conceptual Framework. ii. The Analysis of the Verses Regarding the Veiling in the Qur’an. The surahs al-Araf (26-27), an-Nur (30-31, 60) and al-Ahzab (33, 59) regarding the veiling in the Qur’an are handled. iii. The Purpose of the Veiling. It is inferred that the veiling has purposes such as wearing the piety clothing (taqwa), covering the private parts of the body, protection from the attacks of the satan and its followers, refraining from the illicit glance, protecting the honor and chastity, not revealing women’s adornment, obeying Almighty Allah’s command, protecting women from being harassed verbally and physically, looking beautiful and protecting women from hot and cold weather as part of the purpose of the veiling. iv. The Features of the Cloth in accord with the Veiling. It comes to light that clothing should be in accord with the taqwa, clean, thick enough not to show the body, loose not to display the shape of the body and female clothing must not resemble the male’s clothing within the context of subhead ‘features of the cloth in accord with the veiling.
