Abstract:

Abstract:

Being focused on the solution can be caused by many factors. However, there are some psychological and individual variables that add to the individual’s focus on solutions.  The individual’s solution focus is to be strong and enduring by focusing on the solution, not on the problem in stressful situations, and to be able to deal with problems. The solution-focused cognitive process focuses on the goal and the way to it, not on the problem and its cause. The aim of this study is to identify the variables that individuals focus on the solution and to study these variables in terms of different demographic characteristics. In the correlational research model, the study collected data from 250 teachers candidates, including 176 women and 74 men. Individual life satisfaction, depression, stress and disorders are statistically meaningful contributors to the solving-focused formation. In the data obtained from this study group, the individual’s solution focus, life satisfaction, depression, stress and disorders do not show statistically significant differences according to their gender. The individual’s focus on solutions, life satisfaction, stress and disagreements do not show statistically significant differences depending on where most of life is spent. The depression of individuals is statistically significantly different from where most of their lives are spent. The depression levels of those who spend most of their lives in the villages and districts are higher than the depression levels of those who spend most of their lives in the cities and districts. Individuals’ solution focus, depression, stress and disagreements do not show statistically significant differences according to the father’s educational status. The life satisfaction of individuals is statistically significantly different depending on the father’s education status. The life satisfaction of individuals who have his father's university graduates is statistically significantly higher than those who have his father's primary school graduates. According to the data obtained from the research, mental health workers are advised to use a solution-oriented short-term treatment approach primarily in increasing age-related and life-satisfaction and reducing stress and depression.

Abstract:

There are different personal and psychological factors that predict being solution focused. When encountering stress, solution focused people tend to focus on solutions rather than problems. This study investigated the relationship between demographic and positive psychological factors and being solution focused. The participants included 250 college students from a Turkish university. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between, gender, depression, stress, resiliance and being solution focused. The results also indicated in comparison to the participants who live in rural areas, the participants who lived in urban areas tend to have a higher level of depression. Father education level also had a significant relationhip with life satisfaction of the participants. The participants whose father had college degree had a higher level of life satisfaction than the participants whose father had elementary education. Overall, this study support that using brief solution focused therapy might be useful in increasing resiliance and life satisfaction and decreasing stress and depression of Turkish college students.
