Abstract:

Since the early ages, humanity has had a very close relationship with nature. According to Maslow, the essential need in all needs is the physiological need. For a person who has not satisfied his physiological needs, other needs have no importance. A person who is hungry or thirsty will first feed on this need and will not turn to feed on his other needs. Therefore, the subject of recognition, use and designation of plants has great importance to meet the basic physiological needs of man and partially the safety needs. Thro history, man has named the plants that are alive after his species in different ways. This name generally uses organ names, animal names, numbers, person names, various disease names and geographical location names. The size of the geography in which the Turks continue to live and the different cultural structures they encounter have brought together the diversity of the names they give to the plants. This journey from Central Asia to the Anatolian geography has naturally revealed a rich ad culture in terms of plants. In this study, the first dictionary of Turkish which contains the existence of the word belonging to the Middle Turkish Period in Divanü Lûgati't-Türk has been discussed the situation in the mouths of today's Anadolu of the plant names.
