Abstract:

The Brexit process of a significant economic force like the United Kingdom is the first in the history of the United Kingdom and the twenty-eight-member six hundred years of the European Union. Therefore, the Brexit referendum is one of the breakthroughs in both British politics and European integration, and this situation can mean a loss of power in the European Union. In this study, the impact of some events in the Brexit process on the S&P500 and some EU member countries’ exchange rates and exchange rates was studied by the Event Study Method. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, it was revealed that the United Kingdom, European Union, Ireland, Germany, France and USA stock market indices and Euro/US Dollar and Sterling/Euro currency parities were affected by the event within the Brexit Referendum Announcement event window. However, it was determined that the Referendum Day event only affected the US stock market index, while the Therasa May Lancester House Speech event affected the United Kingdom, European Union, Ireland, Germany, France and USA stock market indices and Euro/US Dollar currencies.
