Abstract:

Although the scientific importance of geography examining the interaction between the earth and man is sometimes discussed, geography has continued to influence the flow of history and shape the individual and social lives of people. It has always been useful to humanity as a guide in understanding the space that changes the human and human who changes the place. Today, although the developments in technology and informatics increase the scientific importance of geography again, the main factor that makes geography science important is the close interaction of geography with other sciences. One of these fields of interaction is the literature geography, which is the meeting point of geography and literature. As a matter of fact, both the geographer and the writer constantly observe and analyze the characteristics of the society and space and the relations between them. Naturally, the world, countries, cities, towns and villages and many other subjects of humanity are naturally included in the geography. It is one of the most accurate methods to bring country and world issues to novels in order to become a well-known or debated writer. Authors create an effective narrative language by using the realistic and strong side of geography. In this way, authors have the opportunity to transmit their ideas or analyses to a much wider audience. Although many geographical issues that expressed academically are presented to the relevant circles as academic books, articles or papers, they can reach a limited number of people. However, when the authors deal with similar subjects in their novels, they find the opportunity to reach a much wider audience. Therefore, discovering and encouraging the geography in the novels will contribute to the understanding of the importance of geography and increasing its influence. Literary geography, as a developing field even in international literature, has only recently started to attract attention. In this study, the novels were analyzed by geography centered reading method and geographical term and place databases were created for the novels examined. The databases were prepared by Access program and the places in the novels were mapped with Arc.GIS 10 software. Geographical terms and spatial analyzes of novels were conducted in accordance with the results obtained from databases and maps.
