In the fight against poverty, the increase in income is of great importance. In particular, the rise in income shows a fair distribution is one of the effective factors in reducing poverty. Most of the studies in literature that study the relationship between poverty, inequality and growth consist of picturesque studies. Studies involving empirical practices have more studied the relationship between income inequality and economic growth, economic growth and poverty or inequality and poverty. The results of a small number of studies that study the relationship between poverty, income inequality and economic growth are different. This study aims to contribute to a small number of existing literature by analyzing the relationship between poverty, income distribution and economic growth in the Level 1 regions of Turkey. Therefore, in the period 2006-2017 the cause analysis was carried out with the Panel Fisher test developed by Emirmahmutoğlu and Köse (2011) for 11 regions using the poverty rate in Turkey, the Gini rate and the income variables per person. According to the results of the analysis, the Panel Fisher test reveals a causal relationship from poverty to economic growth throughout Turkey, while different results have been obtained for different models based on regions.

The increase in income is very important in the fight against poverty. In particular, a fair distribution of increased income is one of the most effective factors in reducing poverty. In the literature, most of the studies examining the relationship between poverty, inequality and growth are composed of descriptive studies. Empirical studies have examined the relationship between income inequality and economic growth, economic growth and poverty or inequality and poverty. The results obtained in the few studies that examine the relationship between poverty, income inequality and economic growth are different. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between poverty, income distribution and growth in NUTS-1 regions of Turkey and it also aimed to contribute to a limited number of existing literature. In this context, by using the poverty rate, Gini coefficient and per capita income variables Panel Fisher Test was employed for 12 NUTS-1 regions in Turkey over the period of 2006-2017. According to the results, Panel Fisher Test result indicates a causal relationship to from poverty to economic growth for Turkey. While poverty affected the economic growth of Turkey, the different results were obtained for different models based on regions.
