Abstract:

There are five different prosperity regimes within the EU: Liberal, Conservative, Social Democratic, Southern Europe and Post-Communist. These well-being regimes, each of which has different characteristics, are sometimes separate from each other and sometimes even within themselves in terms of women’s employment. The aim of this study is to compare women’s employment in the EU and Turkey through a set of basic indicators related to labour markets in the context of welfare regimes. This comparison was attempted through data obtained from Eurostat and partially from the TIC. The study found that women need to participate in labour, but their employment rates are extremely high in the social-democratic welfare regime, while in the South European welfare regime, which includes Turkey, it is quite low. The point that attracts attention here is that in Turkey women need to participate in labour, but the employment rates are almost half the EU average level, even the countries with low line rates remain significantly below. Again, the weight of women’s employment in the agricultural sector and the prevalence of the type of work in the form of free family workers in Turkey appear to us as a distinctive feature. The South European welfare regime, where women have a high rate of unemployment and youth unemployment, is the South European welfare regime. The countries where women have a low part-time employment rate are the countries under the post-communist welfare regime.
