Efsane, birçok toplumda yer alan inanç unsuru ağır basan bir türdür. İnsanlar, doğayı ve bazı olayları anlamaya çalışırken çeşitli efsaneler yaratmış ve yaratmış oldukları bu efsanelere inanmıştır. Efsaneler masal, destan, halk hikâyesi vb. türlere göre inanç unsuru ağır basan ve inanç açısından toplumu doyuma ulaştıran bir türdür. Toplumların inanç unsurlarını içinde barındıran efsaneler, toplumu değişime ve dönüşüme uğratmıştır. İnançların değişim ve dönüşüm sürecini daha iyi analiz edebilmek için efsanelerin dikkatle incelenmesi gerekir. Efsaneler geniş konu yelpazesine sahiptir. Kahramanları ise kutsal varlıklar, olağanüstü varlıklar, insanlar, hayvanlar, canlı cansız tüm varlıklar olabilir. Türk dünyası efsanelerinde, efsanelere konu olmuş ve hakkında efsane anlatılan birçok canlı mevcuttur. Özellikle hayvana dönüşme motifi oldukça sık karşılaşılan bir motiftir. Bu motifler içinde kuşa dönüşme özel bir yer teşkil eder. Kuşa dönüşme motifi çeşitli simgesel anlamlar içerir. Bu dönüşümlerin bazıları mitik dönemin izlerini taşır. Kadının kuşa dönüşme motifi bunlardan biridir. Anadolu’da kadın ve çocukların kuşa dönüşümü hakkında birçok efsane anlatılmaktadır. Çalışmanın amacı, kadın ve çocukların neden kuşa dönüştüklerini ve kuşa dönüşme motifinin kökenini incelemektir. Çalışmanın evreni Anadolu efsaneleri ile ilgili hazırlanmış ve Ulusal Tez Merkezi veri tabanında yer alan doktora ve yüksek lisans tezleri ve yayınlanmış kitaplardır. Taranan efsane metinlerinin benzerlik gösterdikleri tespit edilmiştir. Bu sebepten çalışmanın örneklemi için seçilen metinler geneli temsil yeteneğine sahip olan yayınlanmış kitaplardan seçilmiştir.

Legends need to be carefully studied in order to better analyze the process of change and transformation of beliefs. Legends have a wide range of topics. In the Turkish world’s legends, there are many living things that have been the subject of the legends and are legendary about them. The motivation to become an animal is a very common motivation. These motives are a special place to turn the bird into. The motivation to turn the bird contains a variety of symbolic meanings. Some of these transformations carry the traces of the mythical era. The motivation of a woman to become a bird is one of these. There are many legends about the transformation of women and children into birds in Anatolia. The aim of the study is to explore why women and children become birds and the origin of the motivation to become birds. The universe of study is the doctoral and master theses and published books that are prepared and included in the database of the National Thesis Center related to the Anatolian legends. The Taranan legendary texts have been identified. For this reason, the texts selected for the examples of the study are selected from published books that have the ability to represent generally.

Legends that contain the elements of belief in societies, Legends, which contain the elements of belief in societies, have changed and transformed society. In order to better analyze the process of change and transformation of beliefs, legends need to be carefully studied. Legends have a very wide subject area. The heroes of legends can be sacred beings, extraordinary beings, humans, animals, and all living and inanimate beings. In the legends of the Turkish world, there are many live that have been the subject of legend. In particular, the motif of transformation into animals is a very common motif. Within these motifs, turning into a bird constitutes a special place. The motif of turning into a bird has a variety of symbolic meanings. Some of these transformations bear traces of the mythic period. One of them is the motif of woman turning into a bird. There are many legends about the transformation of women and children into birds in Anatolia. The aim of the study is to find out why women and children turn into birds and to examine the origins of the bird transformation. The universe of this study; It consists of doctoral and master's theses written about Anatolian Legends at the National Thesis Center. And it consists of books published on this subject. The scanned legend texts were found to be similar. For this reason, the texts selected for the sample of the study were selected from published books which are capable of general representation.
