Abstract:

Suleyman-name or its exact name Suleyman-name-i Kebir was written by Firdevsi-i Rumi in between second half of the 15th century and second quarter of the 16th century, and it’s the name of the 81 volumed oeuvre gathering Hazret-i Suleyman stories. Hazret-i Suleyman stories which is uncommon in Turkish literature, by command of Bayezid II, was collected by Firdevsi and was put down on paper epically by some addings. The language of this work which plenty of its manuscript are available in abroad and Turkey as well as generally reflects the features of Old Anatolian Turkish, in the work; partly, it’s possible to find the features of Ottoman Turkish period. While mentioning these language characteristics, the features indicating a general profile for the Old Anatolian Turkish are lefted aside, instead; some remarkable features that we are unaccustomed to see in Old Anatolian Turkish are indicated. The aim is to show that the text includes the structures and vocabulary seen in Old Turkish period, not only with the aspect of its being the most organized Suleyman-name written in Turkish Literature history but also it has an important place in Turkish Language history because of its language features.
