Abstract:

The post-truth concept is widely discussed worldwide, especially after the Oxford Dictionary selected the word of the year in 2016. The definition of the concept, what it means from a political point of view, the role of the new media is the topics that are most discussed. One of the important topics discussed in literature is whether the statements of postmodern theorists and philosophers have an impact on the post-truth situation. In this point, the name of the American pragmatic philosopher Richard Rorty is in the forefront. In the English-speaking world, there are many studies on Rorty’s philosophy and post-truth; most of them, Rorty and his philosophy are “accused” by opening the way to the post-truth state or at least giving him a legitimate ground in the philosophical sense. On the other hand, there are theorists who say that any philosophical statement does not cause social/political situations; therefore, accusing Rorty or another philosopher has no meaning. In this study the philosophy of Rorty is summarized with its main lines and in particular the concept of truth, and after the discussions on the relationship of this philosophy with the post-truth state are summarized, this relationship is attempted to be addressed with a different perspective from the theoretical approach developed by Karel Kosik from the book The Dialect of the Somut. Thus, through this example, the dialectic relationship between the concrete social situations and theoretical approaches is attempted to be shown. To contribute to Turkish literature on Post-truth and philosophy is another purpose of the study.
