In addition to his being a good mu ḥ addith , because he is one of the great scholars of the Ḥ anaf ī school, al- ʿ Ayn ī is an important example for the classification of the mu ḥ addith-faq ī h scholar, which is rarer in the Ḥ anaf ī school than in other schools of Islamic law. On the other hand, given that Bukh ā r ī ’s Ṣ a ḥ ī ḥ is regarded as the most reliable book after the Qur’an, since Ḥ anaf īs , who have been come under criticisms in many aspects in consequence of being ahl al-ra’y, such as opposing to authentic prophetic sayings (a ḥ ā d ī th ) and practicing with weak prophetic sayings, have not practiced with some prophetic sayings in Bukh ā r ī ’s Ṣ a ḥ ī ḥ , criticisms have been intensified against them and they had been accused further in regard to practicing with ḥ ad ī th. In the hope of being a response for the claims in question, this article examines how ʿ Aynî, who had twice been a Ḥ anaf ī judge during his life, assesses these ḥ ad ī ths with both his identity of faq ī h and mu ḥ addith and how he responses to the criticisms directed against Ḥ anaf īs .
