Abstract:

Because of the uncertainty of money laundering as a concept and as data and cases cannot be identified concretely, it has not been investigated comprehensively in the field of academy in Turkey. In this research, we conducted a study aiming to provide general information concerning money laundering and how capital markets can be utilized in money laundering. Criminals resort to various channels and methods for money laundering to present it as a legal income. Likewise, the capital market has the potential to be utilized by criminals for money laundering within this framework. This study also investigates how the capital market can be abused, particularly the study covers the typologies used within the scope of money laundering crime through public companies. As another aspect of the research, the study includes the arrangements provided in Turkey concerning money laundering and the conclusions concerning the action taken in capital markets in the related reports.
