The role of states in economic life and the quality of institutions have become one of the basic questions of debate after the global economic crisis in 2007. In the study, the effects of government size and institutional quality on economic growth are tested with panel data analysis for both developed and developing countries. According to findings obtained via empiric analyses, government size has a negative impact on economic growth in both developing and developed countries. The effects of institutional quality on the other hand differentiate regarding intuitional indicator and country group though it is asserted that instructional quality plays an important role in economic growth
