Abstract:

With globalization and increasing competition, logistics has become an important element in international trade. Global competition requires companies to deliver their products faster by preparing them. In today’s environment where production costs offer close values, the importance of logistics services is increasing to be competitive. In achieving a greater share of world trade, the country’s logistics capabilities and substructs have also become important. The Global Logistics Performance Index has been measured since 2007 with the aim of demonstrating the performance of the countries towards key logistics activities. The first logistics performance index, made in 2007, is published once every two years, and so the developments of the countries can be tracked. In this study, the Logistics Performance Index was used by the World Bank in order to reveal the comparative status of the logistics sector between the G8 countries and Turkey. The study also revealed the current situation in the logistics performance index of Turkey and the G8 countries, the advantages and disadvantages of the countries, and the solutions proposals. The Global Logistics Performance Index has been measured by the World Bank since 2007 in order to demonstrate the performance of the countries in terms of basic logistics activities. The firs logistic performance index, which was made in 2007, is published every two years so that the developments of the countries can be followed. In the thesis study, the Logistics Performance Index prepared by the World Bank is used with the aim to reveal the comperative situation between the G8 countries and Turkey logistics sector.
