Özet:

Bosphorus with all the historical buildings standing on its two coasts is one of the most impressive sceneries in the world beyond any doubt. The area has been the subject of the work of numerous travelers, artists, architects and scientists throughout history and it is possible to find lots of old maps, photos or engravings about the area. During proposals of restitution and conservation projects for historical buildings where only foundations or ground level walls are the existing structures, characterization analyses of the building materials certainly serve the process. Joint evaluations of laboratory research and inspections of building techniques on site lead us to understand the technology of the construction period and to differentiate the structures belonging to various periods. In this context, the methodology and results of the analyses on samples collected from 5 different sites located on two sides of Bosphorus which enclose mainly late 19th and early 20th century foundations and remaining walls will be presented in the article. Results of the analyses and inspections on samples of mortars, plasters, stones and artificial stones are stated under three titles as wall mortars, plasters and pavement mortars referring their locations and a general evaluation of the construction techniques and materials of the period is presented in the conclusion
