Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, died on November 10, 1938. This event has created a great sadness in Turkey. His funeral ceremony was held in Ankara on November 21, 1938. The Government wanted to organize mourning ceremonies everywhere in Turkey, during Ataturk’s funeral ceremony. Therefore the Government prepared a ceremony program. The program was sent to all parts of the country by the Ministry of the Interior. Ceremonies were held from the city centers to the villages in all over the country on November 21, 1938. Thus, citizens of the country paid the last honours to Ataturk. They commemorated Ataturk, shed tears for him. In this study the mourning ceremonies will be examined, taking one city from each region, based on the press, the archive documents, and the memories of the time.
