Geçmişi Romalılara kadar dayansa da hamam kültürünün Osmanlı ile birlikte yaygınlık kazandığı ve kültürel bir miras olduğu bilinmektedir. Kültürümüzde temizliğin, şifanın, belki de hepsinden önce dinin bir özelliği olarak kabul gören hamamlar, aynı zamanda sosyalleşme ve eğlence mekânları olarak da kullanılmaktadır. Geleneklerimiz sayesinde dünden bugüne aktarılan, neredeyse bin yıllık bir geçmişi olan hamam kültürü, beraberinde sadece bir ritüeli değil, aynı zamanda kişilerarası iletişimin yoğun şekilde kullanıldığı bir ortamı da günümüze taşıması bakımından önemlidir. Hamam söz konusu olduğunda birtakım geleneklerden de söz etmek olasıdır. Zira dünden bugüne evrilen hamam kültüründe değişmeyen özelliklerin başında gelin hamamı, asker hamamı, kırk hamamı, sünnet hamamı, bayram hamamı gibi geleneklerin varlığı dikkat çekmektedir. Böylece hamamın sadece yıkanıp, temizlenilen yer olmanın ötesinde buluşma, kaynaşma, eğlenme, sohbet etme vb. iletişim ortamlarının yaratıldığı yer olduğundan söz etmek mümkündür. Bu düşünceden hareketle bize miras kalan geleneklerimizden birisi olan hamam kültürüne iletişim bakış açısıyla yaklaşmak, bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Bu amaca ulaşabilmek için çeşitli yaş ve eğitim seviyelerinden oluşan 20 kadın ve erkek ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmelerden elde edilen bilgilere göre hamam kültürünün sadece kadınlara özgü değil, erkekler arasında da yaygınlık kazandığı, kadınların gelin hamamına erkeklerin ise asker ya da bayram hamamına öncelik verdikleri, hamamların bir iletişim ortamı olarak genel kabul gördüğü ve özellikle kişilerarası iletişimin devamına olanak tanıyan, hatta öyle ki hamamda kurulan dostlukların yıllar boyunca sürdürüldüğü, ilişki ve iletişimin günümüze kadar taşındığı bir mekân olduğu bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak hamamların şifa bulmak, kirlerden arınmak, temizlenmek için gidilen mekânlar olmanın yanı sıra iletişim ortamlarının yoğun şekilde gerçekleştiği, içinde birçok ritüelin bulunduğu, sohbetlerin yapıldığı, şen kahkahaların atıldığı, eğlencelerin gerçekleştirildiği, kültürümüzün bir parçası olarak dünle bugün arasında kurulan bir köprü olduğunu söylemek mümkündür.

It is known that the history of the Romans, even though the Hamam culture has gained popularity along with the Ottoman and is a cultural heritage. In our culture, the hammas, which are considered a feature of purity, healing, first of all, the religion, are also used as places of socialization and entertainment. Through our traditions, the Hamam culture, which has a thousand-year history, is important to bring to our day, not only a ritual, but also an environment where interpersonal communication is widely used. When it comes to Hamam, it is possible to talk about some of the traditions. In the beginning of the unchanged characteristics of the hamam culture that evolved from yesterday to today, the presence of traditions such as bride hamam, soldier hamam, thirty hamam, sunset hamam, holiday hamam is attracted. Thus, beyond the place where the ham is only washed and cleaned; meeting, welding, entertainment, chat, etc. It is possible to say that the communication environment is where it is created. Approaching from a communication point of view to the hamam culture, which is one of our traditions inherited by this thought by movement, is the purpose of this study. For this purpose, a semi-configured conversation with 20 women and men of different ages and educational levels was conducted. According to the information obtained from the conversations, it has been found that the hamam culture is not only unique to women, but has gained popularity among men, that the women prefer to the wedding hamam and the men prefer to the soldier or holiday hamam, that the hamam is generally accepted as a communication environment, and that it allows for the continuation of interpersonal communication, even that the friendship established in the hamam is a place where the relationship and communication are moved to the present day for years. As a result, it is possible to say that there is a bridge that has been built between yesterday and today, where the communication environments are intense, there are many rituals, there are conversations, there are glorious laughs, there are entertainment, there is a bridge that has been built between yesterday and today, as part of our culture.

Traditional Turkish Bath Culture In Terms Of Communication

As well as Turkish bath is known to be a cultural heritage of Roman period; this culture has spread with the Ottoman Empire. These traditional baths are considered to be a feature of cleanliness, healing, and perhaps religion before all, are also used as socializing and entertainment venues. Thanks to our traditions, the bath culture is almost a thousand years old heritage, is not only a ritual, but also an environment where intense communication between people is used effectively and carried on until today. When it comes to bathing, it is possible to talk about some traditions. In the bath culture that changes permanently. However, the unchanging bath traditions such as: the bride's bath, the military bath, the 40 bath, the circumcised bath and the feast bath still maintains. Therefore, besides being the only place where the bath was washed and cleaned, meeting, also the place getting together, having fun, chatting, etc. it is possible to call the place where communication environments are created. With this opinion, approaching to the traditional heritage of bath culture with a communication viewpoint is the aim of this work. To achieve this goal, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 men and 20 women from various ages and education levels. According to the information obtained from the interviews; it is accepted that bathing culture is a common communication venue not only for women but also for men, where they held bride baths for women, soldier baths or festivals. As a result, baths are generally regarded as a communication medium and allow continuity of interpersonal communication. Findings have been reached that the friendships established in the baths lasts life long. Besides known as the places for healing, cleaning and purifying, It is possible to say that they are kind of communication venues where are performed entertainments, festivals, took place many rituals and conversations. As a result, traditional baths are unique places in our culture, where play an important role as a bridge connects culture of past and today.
