Abstract:

Botanical gardens can be interpreted as the symbol of nature longing for societies that began to live in cities centuries ago. The botanical gardens that emerged in Europe during the Renaissance period became more common in cities with the increase of the urban population after the industrial revolution. According to other tourist activities botanical tourism is less harmful to nature. Therefore, the value given to botanical tourism is increasing day by day. Botanical gardens are becoming increasingly important not only for tourist activities but also as ideal areas for everyday life, education and public events. According to the International Botanical Gardens Association(BGCI), Germany has 109 botanical gardens, 96 France, 120 Italy and 199 botanical gardens. Turkey has 9 botanical gardens. On the other hand, the diversity of endemic plants of Turkey is relatively high. There are 126 thousand endemic plants in the world, 3090 species live in Turkey. Due to the number of botanical gardens available in our country and the current plant diversity, it is thought to be an unused potential. This research is a review study of the development of botanical gardens, its use as an activity area and the specific potentials existing in Anatolia.
