Social studies course of basic education is based on learning outcomes, skills and values. In addition, in- and outside-class activities may be used for this aim. Cartoons may be employed in value education at the levels of primary school and pre-school education. On the other hand, in order to use cartoons productively in value education cartoons should be analyzed to seen which values are included at which level. The aim of this study is to analyze a cartoon named “Küçük Hezarfen” (little Hezarfen) in terms of the values and cultural elements included in the educational program of social studies. The data of the study were collected from 26 episodes of the cartoon. The episodes were analyzed using content analysis, part of document analysis. It is found that in the “Küçük Hezarfen” cartoon the most frequently stated value is scientificness. The least stated one is found to be independence. There were also some cultural elements in the cartoon. The most frequently covered cultural elements include idioms, fables, riddles, nursery rhymes, proverbs and quatrain forms. Plays are found to be the least used cultural elements. The findings obtained are given through tables; in addition, frequently found values and cultural elements are explained with direct quotations from the cartoon.
