Abstract:

Literary works play an important role in reflecting the cultural characteristics of a society. Therefore, literary translation is an instrument of interaction between two different cultures and plays the role of a bridge in this interaction. In the translation of literary texts, the importance of cultural elements is great. Due to the distance between two different cultures, cultural elements in the source text may not be fully understood by the male text reader or may not be accepted in the male literature directory. The aim of this study is to study the English translations of Orhan Kemal's Father's House and the cultural elements in the works of the Avare Years according to Peter Newmark's (1988) translation methods and Lawrence Venuti's (1995) translation strategies. In the translation of the examples chosen from the novel, it is determined which of Newmark's translation methods are mainly used. Starting from these preferences, the novel has been trying to determine which Venuti's strategy is more dominant. The study found that the translation adopted a text-oriented translation strategy and often used functional translation, adaptation and extract methods, and that the translation is the nationalization of the strategy that is dominant in the text.
