The novel "White Castle" is a historic philosophy that deals with the processes of dominating each other between a master of the Ottoman Empire and a Venetian slave, and also tells this process in the framework of the conflict "They-We", "Eastern-West". Orhan Pamuk points out that the reason for the focus on Istanbul in the 17th century's Ottoman history in the "The Last Word" section of the work is that the works of Turkish and foreign travelers, which have been taken into mind until that time, can be added to the fiction. Especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, the works consisting of notes received by the travelers to the Ottoman Empire for diplomatic purposes or as observers against the epidemic of the Ebola, have led to the creation of the image of the modern European history of the "deadful Turkish". The Hoca, who represents the Ottoman Empire in the work, approaches the epidemic with the sense of confidence, while the slave, who represents the West, considers the epidemic as a situation that needs to be fought and these two situations are compared with each other. The example of the fight against the epidemic used in the Eastern-West conflicts is considered by Cotton as a turnusol paper and it is considered an effective color that has been involved in the work while it is old.
