Self-assertion of the modern universities is the essential requirement of the capitalist and market economy based contemporary world. This problem that is claimed clearly in Heidegger’s famous rector speech is primarily concerned with analyzing urgently the relationship between knowledge, education, and thinking. Such a relationship always opens each of them as an aporia. Then the source of it should only be sought in the philosophical tradition of thinking known as Western metaphysics. Here’s the basic problem: In respect of the present conditions how can we understand philosophy and then how can we determine the importance of education in terms of philosophy? This is an urgent question for questioning courageously and making a radical explanation on the relationship between philosophy and education. We are faced with the fact that we look at in this context that the philosophical tradition and its metaphysical history has a rational and so logo-phallo-centrical character. But on the other hand, as is done today to understand philosophy as simply a worldview is not true also. That’s why, both Heidegger and Derrida stressed the need to dissolve, dissect, or disperse metaphysics radically. Therefore, knowledge, education and thinking triple bond may arise in the metaphysical tradition. It is important here that the knowledge is replaced by thinking. Now knowledge has been a priority. Thinking is only to serve it. As a result of that, today university is defined only with knowledge. In other words, questioning was abandoned the university. To ressolve and clearly reveal this issue Heidegger insists on the ontological necessity of the self-assertion of the modern universities. On the other hand, Derrida vehemently claims that the value of philosophical thinking and right to philosophy in universities and all other educational institutions in general.
