A Hungarian philosopher, a literature historian and critic, Lukacs was one of the prominent philosophers influencing the direction of Marxist philosophy and theory. He contributed to this theory by studying on relation between Marxist class theory and conscious and particularly by developing the category of ideology. This main aim of this article is to understand and explore the way that the category of ideology was studied by Georgy Lukacs while focusing on his metatheoretical standpoint. In this sense, the questions on particular place of Lukacs in the Marxism of the twentieth century and his contribution to this philosophy will be asked. Conscious, subject-object relation, social classes will be taken as the key concepts contributing to exploration of Lukacs’ theory of ideology in responses to the questions.
