The Korean War has become a historical phenomenon with deep traces on the social life in Turkey. Although formal history writing in this country does not attribute much about this topic, oral narratives of veterans have had solid effects on the social memory. Yet there have been very few documentary films concerning this evidence. And most of these films were just prepared for anniversary purposes, carrying traditional documentary style interviews. There are almost no documentaries about the Korean War with testimonies about the background of the battlefield. It is undoubted that documentaries prepared through oral history methods are very important and they contribute a lot to the writing of general history and thus history becomes a living object. "The Distinguished Army: The Last Witnesses of the Korean War" will be filling an important gap in this sense. Through various events and testimonials, this documentary will reveal the unknown role of Turkish soldiers in the war and it also shed light on how public opinion of the Korean war was shaped then.
