Abstract:

In the individual society, a mass man, McLuhan, tried to define how typographic technology affects intellectual change in Western societies. The concept of "electronic media" has opened the stage for discussion. How to evaluate historical trends that are important in understanding cultural changes in intellectual processes or at the beginning of new technology. Mcluhan argued that the world has evolved from oral culture to written culture, and that the media has evolved from written culture to electronic culture.  McLuhan, who gave his own views and other views in his work, suggested a new mixed thought. As he pointed out in the Gutenberg Galaxy, he talked about how mechanical technology came today when letters were printed on paper. In this study, Mcluhan and his theories and concepts that are still effective today were reviewed as a result of the literature survey and contemporary assessments including mass media were made. In addition, Marshall McLuhan's technology and media criticism was re-discussed and an evaluation was made on the basis of the new media technologies. Using descriptive method, McLuhan’s concept of “tetrad” was evaluated in the context of the new media. The study aims to contribute to the limited resources available in Turkish with McLuhan and his theories.
