Many environmental problems, especially climate change, are not just the topic of scientific meetings. Theyhave also begun to affect the daily life of all mankind. It is prevailing opinion that literature is not only interested in individualistic problems it is also a social production. In this case, we must also be aware that environmental problems cannot be ignored in literature. Submergence, which was written by the English writer JM Ledgardon almost in the same year (2012) with Buket Uzuner's novel titled as Uyumsuz Defne Kaman’ın Maceraları: Su is important in terms of reflecting the literature’s preoccupation with environmental problems. These two works are similar to each other in how they see the nature, though they are products of different geographies and cultures. In addition, both novels are significant in terms of how climate change is reflected on the novel genre. The way both novels use myths while dealing with “water” is also worthy to discuss. Besides, both novels contain abundant encyclopedic information about environmental issues. In this sense, the two novels mentioned above will be assessed to show how contemporary environmental problems permeate the fiction and how myths are used to create an ecological awareness.
