The relationship between the Ottoman Empire and Germany has a long history. The German Emperor Wilhelm II’s visit to Ottoman lands in 1889, 1898 and 1917 consolidated the friendship between the two empires. While the first and third of these visits were limited to Istanbul and its environs, in the second one the Emperor visited also Jerusalem, a sacred place for Muslims, Christians and Jews
