Üniversite Eğitiminde Öğretim Üyesi Tutumunun Ders Başarısına Etkisinin Veri Madenciliği Teknikleriyle Araştırılması

Küreselleşme teknolojik gelişmeleri ve rekabeti arttırmıştır. Teknolojik gelişmeler büyük miktarda veriyi saklama imkânı sunmuştur. Büyük miktarda veri içerisinden gizli kalmış faydalı bilginin çıkarılması veri madenciliği teknikleri ile gerçekleşmektedir. Artan rekabet ise üretim, işletme, pazarlama, eğitim, sağlık gibi her alanda faydalı bilgi ve kalite ihtiyacını beraberinde getirmiştir. Öğrenciler tarafından öğretim üyelerinin ve derslerin değerlendirilmesi yurt içinde ve yurt dışında pek çok yükseköğretim kurumunda gerçekleştirilen bir uygulamadır. Bu çalışmada, Weka yazılımı kullanılarak lojistik regresyon analiziyle yükseköğretim kurumlarında öğretim üyesi ders performansının öğrencinin ders başarısı üzerindeki etkisi araştırılmıştır. 5820 adet anket verisinden hareketle öğrencilere öğretim üyesi değerlendirmesi ile ilgili yöneltilen 16 soruya verilen cevaplara lojistik regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Ders performansını değerlendirmeye yönelik ders tekrar sayısı ve öğretim üyesi başarısı şeklinde iki sonuçlu iki farklı dikotomik başarı kriteri tanımlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, “Yeterli, güncel bilgiye sahip olarak hazırlıklı olma, ders planına uygun anlaşılır anlatma, dersin bizzat öğretim üyesi tarafından etkin olarak anlatımı, öğrenci görüşlerine saygılı, katılıma önem verme, dersle ilgili proje, quiz, ödev uygulamalarının desteklenmesi, açık, şeffaf, objektif değerlendirmelerin olması, sınav sorularının derste çözülerek tartışılması” tutum ve davranış özelliklerinin “öğrencinin ders başarısı” üzerinde etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğretim üyesinin başarılı olarak değerlendirilmesinde ise, “öğretim üyesinin yeterli, güncel bilgiyle derse hazırlıklı, zamanında gelmesi, olumlu tavır içerisinde anlaşılır ders anlatması, öğrenciye saygılı, katılımcı, ödev, proje, quiz gibi uygulamalara önem vermesi, sınav sorularının derste çözülerek tartışılması” tutum ve davranış özelliklerinin “öğretim üyesi başarı” algısını olumlu etkilediği anlaşılmıştır.        Anahtar Kelimeler: Veri Madenciliği, Lojistik Regresyon Analizi, Weka, Öğretim Üyesi Başarı Faktörleri Jel Sınıflandırması: C80, C10

Globalization has increased technological developments and competition. Technological developments have provided the possibility of storing large amounts of data. The extraction of large amounts of data hidden useful information takes place through data mining techniques. Increased competition has brought together the need for useful knowledge and quality in all areas such as production, business, marketing, education, healthcare. The assessment of teachers and courses by students is a practice carried out in many higher education institutions in the country and abroad. In this study, the logistical regression analysis using the Weka software has studied the impact of the teaching performance on the student's course success in higher education institutions. From 5820 survey data, logistical regression analysis was applied to the answers to 16 questions addressed to students regarding the assessment of the faculty members. Two different dicotomic success criteria are defined in the form of the number of repetitions of the courses and the success of the faculty members. According to the results obtained, "Be prepared with sufficient, up-to-date knowledge, understandable explanation in accordance with the curriculum, effectively explanation of the course by the teacher personally, respecting the student opinions, paying attention to participation, supporting the course-related projects, quests, task practices, having clear, transparent, objective assessments, discussing the exam questions by solving in the class" attitude and behavior characteristics have an effect on "student's course success". Data mining techniques are used to extract useful information that is hidden from the amount of data. Increasing competition bring with the need for information and quality in every field such as production, business, marketing, education and health. Evaluation of instructors and courses by students; is an application carried out in many higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad. In this study, the effect of the performance of the teaching staff on the student's course success in higher education institutions was investigated by logistic regression analysis using Weka software. Based on 5820 questionnaire data, logistic regression analysis was applied to the answers given to the 16 questions associated with teaching staff assessment. Two different dichotomic success criteria have been defined in terms of the number of course repetitions and the success of the teaching staff in order to evaluate student achievement. According to obtained results, it was concluded that preparedness for sufficient and up-to-date information, conforming lesson plan, being expressed effectively lesson by teaching staff, respecting the student views, giving the importance to participation, supporting the projects, quizzes and homework applications associated with course, open, transparent, objective evaluations and making discussion associated with exam questions in the lesson had an effect  on student's course success and in being evaluated the teaching staff as successful.
