Kurşun mühürler (Molybdobullae), yazılı kaynakların bıraktığı boşlukları tamamlayan
The Byzantine lead seals (molybdobullae) are a significant type of sources on the Byzantine institutions and prosopography which completes the gaps left by literary sources. Thirteen unpublished lead seals in the inventory of Edirne Museum, dated from the VIIIth century to the XIIth century, are presented here for the first time. They belonged to Patriarch of Constantinople Germanos III (1265-1266), Nikēphoros Vatatzēs magistros vestēs and the doux of all the West (XIth century), Theodoros metropolitan of Seleukeia (787), Nicholas Serblias kensor, kritēs and megas kourator of Tarsos and Seleukeia, (mid-XIth century), Michaēl archbishop of Kotradia (Isauria), stratēgos and anagrapheus (1050), Krinetēs patrikios basilikos protospatharios epi tou chrysotriklinou (end of the IXth c./early Xth c.), Theophylaktos anthypatos patrikios basilikos protospatharios Megas Heteriarchēs (Xth c.), Emperor IV. Romanos Diogenēs, Empress Eudokia (Makrembolitissa), Michaēl VII (Dukas), Konstantinos (Dukas) and Andronikos (Dukas) (1068-1071) and Leo (Pantherios) Komnēnodukas (XIIth century). They are of special importance in terms of providing vivid evidence on communication between the Byzantine capital-city and Thrace, and among Seleukeia and Thrace, as well as giving data on connection of their owners with Thrace.
