Abstract:

The relationship of social service with individuals, families and groups defined as mental health problematic is established within many corporate structures and services outside of this area, as it is actually within the psychiatric care field. The care of society, which needs to be protected, a significant percentage of abuse victims or neglected children, young people, elderly and disabled are providing welfare services to special needs and risk groups, and these groups are intervened psychosocial healing-oriented interventions. With marginal minorities exposed to social markings, homosexuals, criminalized children, prisoners, addicts, and other psychosocial-focused studies have been carried out for more than a hundred years. Psychiatric continues its effectiveness in many areas of social service, health and social well-being using methods of application such as individual counseling, work with society, group work, social action, social planning and social policy. In the professional interventions of all the groups mentioned here, a significant mental health knowledge is applied. The courses offered in social service education prepare graduates to apply in a variety of fields and the broad formation of the occupational intervention focuses brings it to a favourable position in the field of mental health. In this article, the place of psychiatric social service in Turkey and the basic functions of the social service profession in psychiatrics are discussed in various aspects.
