The purpose of this study is to make a review of literature on multiculturalism, multicultural education in Turkey and teachers ‘competencies in multicultural education. Recently, the importance of including cultural differences in curriculum has been emphasized widely among educational institutions from primary schools to higher education. It is known that the success of any change conducted in curriculum mostly depends on the capabilities of the teacher. The teachers should be knowledgeable about multicultural education, how to apply the principles of multicultural education in class. Hence, the role of teacher has crucial importance in doing multicultural education and giving rights to all children coming from different cultures. In this review, firstly, multiculturalism was defined and different perspectives on multiculturalism were presented. Secondly, the application of multicultural education in Turkey was explained. At last, self-efficacy of the teacher in multicultural education was discussed in detail.
