Abstract:

The relationship between Islam and democracy has always been discussed, and it has been one of the topics that are at the heart of a very broad focus of interest not only from a scientific point of view, but also from an ideological point of view. The approach to the issue has shown differences from the characteristics emphasized/wished to be emphasized of democracy, depending on the characteristics revealed by Islam, so a very abundant democracy-Islam relationship literature has been formed with different assessments. In addition to the work that attracts attention in this literature, those who are sloganic because of the sensitivity of the issue and its very favorable to ideological abuse also hold a lot of joke. These are also compared, and the related works are outside the subject of this article. In our opinion, while the relationship between Islam and democracy is overwhelmed, democracy is mostly overwhelmed to a form of governance, the relationship with modernity in which it owes its existence in today’s sense, the characteristic of being a distinction in the political field of modernity is ignored. This negligence is seen as a great disadvantage before placing a healthy ground of speech about Islam and democracy. Therefore, in our work, we will try to make a comparison of Islam and Democracy that takes into account the link between modernity and democracy.
