Türkiye İkinci Dünya Savası’ndan sonra iç ve dış dinamiklerin zorlaması ile çok partili hayata geçmiş, çok partili yasama geçtikten sonra ilk önemli muhalefet partisi olan DP 7 Ocak 1946’da kurulmuştu. CHP iktidarına karşı ciddi ve güçlü bir muhalefet yürüten DP 14 Mayıs 1950 Genel Seçimlerinde iktidara gelmişti. DP’nin iktidara gelmesi Türkiye’de yeni bir dönemin başlangıcı olmuş, iktidarının ilk yıllarında büyük hamleler gerçekleştiren DP Van’da 2 Mayıs 1954 Genel Seçimlerinde gücünü daha da artırarak pekiştirmişti. 27 Ekim 1957 Genel Seçimlerinde Van’da DP’nin oy oranı düşmüştü.

After second world war internal and external conditions forced Turkey for transition to multi party system. After transition to multi party system foremost opposition party, which had founded in 7 January 1946, was DP strongly contravened to CHP goverment and came to power after election of 14 May, 1950. With accede of DP new period started in Turkey, in its years of govern D. P. effectuated important leaps and assured its position in DP May 2, 1954 General Election Van, further increasing the power of consolidated its October 27, 1957 General Election in Van percent of the vote fell DP
