Cumhuriyet dönemi Türk toplumu açısından kültürel bağlamda önemli bir değişim ve dönüşüm evresidir. İmparatorluk kurumları onyedinci yüzyıldan itibaren yavaş yavaş değişirken, savaşlar ve ekonomik buhranlar sonucu iktidarın gücünü kaybetmesiyle yerini yeni bir siyasal rejime bırakmıştır. Cumhuriyet her alanda iddialı atılımların yapıldığı bir dönemdir. Cumhuriyetin getirdiği birçok yeniliğin kökeninde Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun son dönemlerinde gerçekleştirilen yenilik hareketlerini görmek mümkündür. Buna karşın Cumhuriyet rejiminin kültür ve sanat alanında gerçekleştirdiği dönüşüm onu önceki dönemden ayrı ele almayı gerekli kılmaktadır. Kültür ve sanat rejimin kendisini ifade edeceği en önemli yol olmuştur. Bu bakımdan, hâkim sanat anlayışını ele alırken, yirminci yüzyılın ilk yarısında Türk sosyolojisi camiasında öne çıkan isimlerinin yaklaşımlarını, eleştirilerini ve katkılarını ortaya koymak önemli hale gelmiştir. Bu isimlerin bazılarının yeni siyasi rejimin ideologu, destekleyicisi ya da eleştirmeni oldukları düşünüldüğünde, sanat sosyolojisi bağlamında derlenen düşüncelerini incelemek o dönem hakkında daha fazlasını öğrenmemizi sağlamaktadır.
The Republic period in the cultural context is an important stage in terms of change and transformation of Turkish society. While the imperial institutions were gradually changing from the seventh century upwards, it was replaced by a new political regime with the loss of power as a result of wars and economic crises. The Republic is a period in which ambitious breakthroughs are made in every field. In the origin of many innovations brought by the Republic, it is possible to see the movements of innovation in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. On the other hand, the transformation of the Republican regime in the field of culture and art requires a separate consideration from the previous period. Culture and art have been the most important way for the regime to express itself. In this regard, while dealing with the dominant concept of art, it has become important to discuss the approaches, criticisms and contributions of the prominent names of the Turkish sociology community in the first half of the twentieth century. Considering some of these names as an ideologist, supporter or critic of the new political regime, examining the ideas that are compiled in the context of the sociology of art enables us to learn more about that period.
