The wide usage of information and communication technologies in daily life, made governments give some services to thepublicon electronicenvironment. The quantity and the variety of the services given by government institutions increases every day in Turkey as well as the whole world. However, as an addition to quantity and variety, the quality should also be increased. The e-government sites should be easy to access and should make it possible to be used efficiently and effectively At this point the web sites should be evaluated in terms of the principles of human-computer interaction, and the probable problems should be prevented through conducting usability tests. The aim of this study is to share the results of usability tests conducted on most used e-government sites in our country by also giving the basic information about e-government and human computer interaction. The usability tests was conducted in METU human computer interaction labs with seven users, each given twelve taskson four different e-government sites. The images recorded by Tobbi 1750eye movements observer software were analyzed with Clearview software. The task criteria were chosen as fulfilling the basic needs of people on web sites gardless of what sex, age group, educational or religious background,etc., they belong to. The tasks are evaluated on efficiency, effectiveness, duration and satisfaction criteria. Although all the users had experienced in using computers and internet, they faced some serious problems such as not being able to complete the process on some web sites. These problems show that the usability factors have not been taken into consideration while preparing the sites.
