Although there has been a noticeable increase in the number of women academics in Turkey in recent periods, the greater participation of eril powers in higher positions and decision-making mechanisms is a sign that social gender roles continue without interruption. Although the share of women academics in Turkey is higher than the share of women in many European countries, women are not parallel with their representations in the management and administrative mechanisms and in the high academic career stages. In this study, the number of girls students compared to the number of boys students, all the sociology departments in Turkey were addressed. The aim is also to reveal the disadvantages that sociology departments, which are more focused on social gender studies than other disciplines of science, fall into women academics. The Department of Sociology, which received its first official degree in 1914, has been actively contributing to science at 90 state and foundation universities since 2016. Profiles of a total of 946 academic staff working in the sociology departments have been studied by accessing the university’s websites and the YÖK Search Engine. The data is analyzed through the SPSS program.
