Araştırmada, müzik eğitiminin, hafif düzeydeki zihinsel engelli 10-13 yaş grubu öğrencilerin sosyal beceri düzeylerine etki durumunun incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Deneysel modelle yürütülen bu nicel çalışmada çalışma grubu, bir özel eğitim okulunda öğrenim gören, 21’i deney, 13’ü kontrol grubunda değerlendirilen toplam 34 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Araştırmada statik grup öntest sontest deseni kullanılmıştır. Deney grubuna 10 hafta süre ile haftada 1 kez planlı müzik eğitimi verilirken, kontrol grubu ise herhangi bir müzik etkinliğine dâhil edilmemiştir. Veriler araştırmacılar tarafından Okul Sosyal Davranışlar Ölçeği kullanılarak sınıf ortamında elden toplanmıştır. Veriler Mann Whitney U testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, uygulanan müzik eğitiminin hafif düzeydeki zihinsel engelli öğrencilerin sosyal yeterlilik düzeylerinde anlamlı derecede değişiklik oluşturamadığı ancak olumsuz sosyal davranışlarının azalmasında etkili olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır.
The study was aimed at studying the impact of music education on the levels of social skills of students of the 10-13 year-old group of slight mental disabilities. In this quantitative study conducted by the experimental model, the work group consisted of a total of 34 students studied in a private educational school, 21 experimented, 13 evaluated in the control group. The study used static group predest estest design. The experimental group has been given a planned music training once a week for 10 weeks, while the control group has not been included in any musical event. The data was collected by researchers in classroom by using the School Social Behavior Scale. The data was analyzed by the Mann Whitney U test. The study found that the music education applied did not make significant changes in the levels of social capacity of light-level mental disabled students, but was effective in reducing their negative social behavior.
This study aimed to examine the effect of music education on the social skill levels of mild mental disabled students aged between 10 and 13. In this quantitative study conducted with an experimental model, the study group consisted of 34 students who were in a special education school. A static group pretest-posttest design was employed. In the experimental group, planned music education was given once a week for 10 weeks. Researchers collected the data during class time via School Social Behavior Scale and analyzed it using Mann Whitney U test. Results showed that music education was not able to affect the social competence levels of mild mental disabled students significantly, but it was effective in reducing negative social behaviors.
