The need for communication which has started with the cave paintings evolves according to the time-space and the age of the era and is evolved and transformed into letters, numbers and symbols for the establishment of communication. Written sources owned by a small number of people became easier to produce with the technology. The long-term preparation of the manuscript works is reduced to minimum and the mass production effects our lives with the Gutenberg’s printing press. These developments in technology and the rise of quality standards lead people to the search for new art. Typography is an important tool that enhances meaning within visual communication design and enables the message to reach the source. In this context, the idea of “New Typography ” which is still valid, should be well understood. İt’s important to recognize the Jan Tschichold, who is the pioneer of the idea of new typography and the movement and getting to know the basics of new typography and understanding the important developments and innovations that provides to typography and it is important to understand today's typography and the approach of digital world to typography. For this purpose, qualitative research method was used in the article and a literature review was conducted
